Supreme Court to Hear Petitions on Tirupati Laddu Allegations Shortly

The Supreme Court is set to hear petitions today at 1 PM regarding a court-monitored investigation into claims that animal fat was used in making the laddus served as Prasadam at the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirumala.

This decision follows the filing of multiple petitions last week addressing the allegations. On Saturday, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) visited Tirupati to begin its inquiry into the adulteration concerns surrounding the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Prasadam Laddu. Subsequently, the SIT held a meeting at Padmavathi Guest House in Tirupati to further investigate these claims.

The controversy erupted after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu alleged that substandard ingredients, including animal fat, were utilized in the preparation of the Tirupati laddus during the previous YSRCP government. In response, YSRCP leader Jagan Mohan Reddy accused CM Naidu of "blatantly lying" about the Prasadam, insisting that the ghee procurement e-tender is a routine process that has been followed for decades.

Reddy criticized the current government's actions, stating, "The demon rule is continuing in the state. The government is trying to obstruct my upcoming visit to the Tirumala temple." He mentioned that police issued notices to YSRCP leaders across the state, stating that their planned visit to the temple is not permitted and lacks the necessary approvals. Reddy claimed that Naidu has raised the Laddu issue to divert attention from political matters.
