May 6, 2025 Samsung has begun rolling out the April 2025 security update to its Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra smartphones, marking what could be one of the final updates for the iconic Note lineup. The update is now reaching devices in select markets and continues Samsung’s quarterly update schedule for the aging flagship duo.

Launched in August 2020, the Galaxy Note 20 series has been a hallmark of Samsung’s productivity-focused smartphone line. The devices were initially promised:

  • 3 years of major Android updates (ending with Android 13 in 2022)

  • 4 years of security patches, expected to conclude in Q3 2024

However, Samsung extended support beyond its original policy, allowing the Note 20 series to continue receiving quarterly security updates into 2025 — a nod to the lineup’s loyal user base.

The Galaxy Note 20 series is now firmly in the end-of-life window, as Samsung gradually winds down support for its 2020 flagship devices. The Galaxy S20 series, launched earlier that same year, was officially dropped from updates last month, making the Note 20 series next in line for retirement.

The Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra were the last true Galaxy Note phones, with later stylus support shifting to the Galaxy S Ultra series. As Samsung consolidated its high-end offerings, the Note lineup was quietly sunset after 2021, replaced in spirit by the Galaxy S22 Ultra and its successors, which absorbed the Note’s core stylus-driven features.
