Dry Weather Expected Across State on April 28, Rainfall Alert for Tomorrow

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted dry weather across all districts of Uttarakhand today, April 28. However, surface winds in the plains are expected to be strong and gusty during daytime hours. Despite the dry spell, the weather department has issued an alert for heavy rainfall starting from April 29, urging administrative agencies to remain on high alert.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local authorities have been mobilized, with additional forces deployed in vulnerable areas as a precaution.

No Temperature Rise Expected; Clear Skies Over Dehradun

While dry conditions prevail, the IMD has provided some relief, forecasting no significant rise in day and night temperatures. In Dehradun, skies are expected to remain mostly clear, with the maximum temperature reaching around 37°C and the minimum hovering near 19°C. On Sunday, Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 37.5°C.

Across other plains cities like Haridwar, Rishikesh, Roorkee, Vikasnagar, Rudrapur, and Kashipur, residents have been grappling with intense heat over the past few days. However, a shift in weather patterns brought some respite late Sunday evening.

Strong Winds and Local Disruptions Reported

Late Sunday evening, strong gusty winds and dust storms affected various parts of the state. In Dehradun, especially along Rajpur Road, several trees were uprooted, causing temporary disruptions. Some areas, including Rajpur Dhakpatti, reported fallen electric poles, leading to brief power outages across parts of the city.

According to UPCL (Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited) SE Rahul Jain, electricity supply was suspended temporarily at several substations as a precaution due to falling trees on power lines. Light drizzle was reported in Dehradun, further cooling temperatures after days of intense heat, while Mussoorie experienced rain accompanied by strong winds.

Rain and Storm Preparedness in Place

With heavy rainfall anticipated from April 29, the IMD’s alert has prompted local administrations to strengthen disaster preparedness. Citizens are advised to stay updated with official weather bulletins and exercise caution, particularly in sensitive areas prone to landslides and flash floods during the rainy season.
