Bengaluru: In a tragic accident in the Whitefield Traffic Police limits, an 8-year-old girl lost her life after a tractor towing a water tanker lost control and plunged into a lake on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Yansika (8), daughter of Tilakraj Bhatt, a resident of Pattandur. Her younger sister, Himanshika (6), sustained injuries but is reportedly out of danger.
The incident occurred around 12 PM near the bund of the Pattandur Lake. Tilakraj Bhatt, a native of Nepal, was working as a water tanker tractor driver and lived with his wife and two daughters in a laborers’ shed in Pattandur. On Saturday morning, he was reportedly driving the tractor along with his two daughters seated in it, heading towards Nallurhalli.
While crossing the lake bund, the tractor lost control and overturned into the lake. Yansika, who got trapped under the tanker, died on the spot. Her sister Himanshika and father Tilakraj sustained injuries and were rescued.
Whitefield Traffic Police rushed to the scene upon receiving the information and shifted Yansika’s body to the hospital for postmortem. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accident was caused due to overspeeding and negligent driving.
A case has been registered at the Whitefield Traffic Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
