BJP leader Sambit Patra strongly criticised CM Mamata Banerjee saying, "On the 25th of June, a horrific case of gang rape involving our sister, a student aged approximately 24-25, occurred at Kasba Law College in Kolkata, creating an atmosphere of grief across the whole of India today. There is an air of disbelief about where Bengal is heading.Where there is a female chief minister, there ought to be sensitivity towards women, so why is there such insensitivity, such cruelty?"

Student reveals harrowing details of incident
The law student, has accused a former student leader, Manojit Mishra, and two junior students, Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed, of gang-raping her on campus after forcibly taking her to the security guards’ room.
She said that the crime followed her rejection of a marriage proposal from Mishra, who, enraged, conspired with the others to carry out the assault.
She said in her complaint that the trio undressed and raped her, video-recorded the assault, and threatened to circulate the footage if she reported the crime. When she resisted, one of the accused allegedly struck her with a hockey stick.

She informed that she was unlawfully confined for over three hours, during which she pleaded for medical help as she suffered a panic attack, but the perpetrators refused to assist her beyond allowing the use of her inhaler.
