BENGALURU: Demonstrating India’s advanced weather monitoring capabilities, the Indian Space Research Organisation ( Isro ) announced on Thursday that it is actively tracking Cyclonic Storm ‘Dana’ as it "fast advances" toward the coastal regions of Odisha and West Bengal .
The space agency’s state-of-the-art satellites , EOS-06 and Insat-3DR , have been monitoring the storm’s development since Oct 20, providing crucial data to support disaster management operations.
"The EOS-06 satellite’s Scatterometer sensor played a vital role in early detection by measuring ocean wind patterns and their circulation patterns. This early warning capability gave authorities valuable lead time to implement necessary safety measures in potentially affected areas," Isro said.
It added that the Insat-3DR, its geostationary satellite, has been delivering real-time cloud data, enabling authorities to make well-informed decisions regarding evacuation and disaster preparedness.
The combination of polar orbiting and geostationary satellite data has enhanced cyclone tracking capabilities.
