NEW DELHI: Congress appoints Subhankar Sarkar as the President of West Bengal unit replacing Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury .
In a statement issued late on Saturday night by Congress, the party said that with Sarkar's appointment as WBPCC president , he has been relieved of his current position in the All India Congress Committee. Sarkar, was a national secretary in AICC in-charge of Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Mizoram.
The Congress acknowledges the role of Chowdhury saying, "that the party appreciates the contributions of the outgoing chief".
Chowdhury had resigned as the president of the West Bengal Congress Committee after the Lok Sabha polls and the process of appointing a new chief of the state unit was underway which now stands complete with the appointment of Sarkar.
The Congress' state leadership, especially Chowdhury has been at variance with the coordination seen between the Congress and TMC at the central level.
