NEW DELHI: The government's Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Monday flagged false claims circulating on social media alleging that "confidential documents" related to the army's preparedness have been leaked. The PIB Fact Check team, in a post on X, dismissed the documents as "fake" and urged citizens to rely only on official sources for accurate information.
The development comes at a time of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following Pahalgam terror attack . On April 22, terrorists opened fire at a meadow in Baisaran, killing 26 people, most of them tourists.
In response, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, convened a high-level meeting and directed security forces to maintain a "high vigil."
"Pro-Pakistan social media accounts are falsely claiming that confidential documents related to the preparedness of the #IndianArmy have been leaked," the PIB Fact Check said in its post. "These documents are #FAKE. Please avoid sharing unverified information and rely only on official sources from the government of India for accurate information," it added.
Separately, the defence ministry on Sunday cautioned the public about a misleading message circulating on WhatsApp. The viral message falsely claimed that the government had opened a bank account to collect donations for the modernisation of army.
The ministry dismissed the claim, calling it fraudulent, and urged people to stay alert against such scams. PIB Fact Check had also issued a warning regarding this fake message.
