NEW DELHI: RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar after yet another businessman, Vikram Jha , was shot dead by an unidentified assailant in Patna’s Ramkrishna Nagar locality on Friday evening.
The incident, which came just days after the killing of industrialist Gopal Khemka , has intensified political heat in Bihar ahead of the state elections.
According to the police, the incident took place late Friday evening. "Police immediately reached the spot and took him to the nearest hospital, where he was declared brought-dead. The exact reason behind the murder is not known yet. An investigation is underway," said SP (Patna East), Parichay Kumar.
He added that the body has been sent for post-mortem and a search operation is on to trace the accused.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav reacted strongly to the incident, targeting Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for his "inaction" in the face of rising crime in the state.
Taking to X, Tejashwi wrote: "Murder of businessman Vikram Jha by shooting in Patna! DK Tax transfer industry is the main reason for the chaotic situation in the state."
He added: "Why is the unconscious Chief Minister silent? Who is responsible for the hundreds of murders happening daily? The corrupt Bhoonja Party must answer."
This marks the third high-profile business-related killing in Patna within ten days. On July 10, a 50-year-old sand mining businessman was gunned down outside his residence in the Ranitalab area. That came just six days after prominent industrialist Gopal Khemka was shot dead in the city on July 4.
The string of murders has triggered a fresh war of words between the ruling NDA and the opposition RJD-led alliance. While the RJD has accused the Nitish Kumar-led government of complete breakdown in law and order, NDA leaders have countered with their own attacks, accusing the opposition of trying to bring back "Jungleraaj."
The political tensions come as Bihar prepares for assembly elections in the coming months.
