Dhruv and Tanisha rallied to defeat Ye Hong Wei and Nicole Gonzales Chan of Chinese Taipei 12-21, 21-16, 21-18 to set up a quarterfinal with fifth seeds Chun Man Tang and Ying Suet Tse. The Hong Kong pair downed Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah of Indonesia 21-15, 21-14.

Despite a 14-11 win-loss record, Sindhu succumbed to Akane Yamaguchi 12-21, 21-16, 21-16. Yamaguchi started with a 4-0 lead and made it 11-5 by the mandatory change of courts. At one stage the Japanese was up 16-10. Though Sindhu reduced the gap to 14-17, she was never in the contest.

Kiran George began well by taking the first game against Kunlavut Vitidsarn before losing 21-19, 21-13, 21-16.

The reigning world champion is known for his slow starts but surprisingly he struggled in the third as well. But the Olympic silver medallist used his experience to get over the line.
