Minor dead in Chatra lightning

Chatra: A minor died while another sustained serious burn injuries in lightning that struck Chatra on Saturday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Vikas Kumar (15) while the injured was identified as Deepak Bhuiyan (13), both residents of Kanaudi village, police added.

Family members said the children had gone to Vishnapur forest in Itkhori block when it started raining. They took shelter under a tree when lightning struck. On getting information about the incident, the villagers reached there and took the duo to the Itkhori community health centre, where Vikas was declared dead.

Officer in-charge of the Itkhori police station, Abhishek Kumar Singh, sent the body to the Chatra Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination.

BDO Somnath Vankira said, "The family of the deceased would get a compensation of Rs 4 lakh."
