The final witnesses in the trial of Carly Gregg, the 15-year-old from Rankin County, Mississippi. who fatally shot her mother and injured her stepfather. Gregg was arrested in March 2024 for the murder of her mother, 40-year-old Ashley Smylie. She attempted to shoot her stepfather, Heath Smylie, but the bullet only grazed past him. Ashley Smylie was a 40-year-old math teacher from Rankin County. She was shot twice in the face by Carly on March 19, 2024. Heath Smylie, Carly’s stepfather, survived the incident with a graze wound to his shoulder. On Thursday, she was at the court as experts testified on her psychological condition after it was revealed that she did not tell prosecutors she was having hallucinations. The incident happened on March 19, 2024, in Ashton Way, Ranking County, Mississippi. Deputies were called to the location and they found Gregg's stepfather, Heath Smylie, wounded. Heath Smylie told the police that he found her wife dead at the house and her stepdaughter attempted to shoot at him, too. Gregg pleaded not guilty to the charges during her first court appearance, and her bond was set at $1 million.
