Prince Andrew has revealed that he will no longer use his Duke of York title. Buckingham Palace released a statement by Andrew on Friday evening, revealing that the decision came after a close consultation with the King.
The statement shared that the decision has been made as "the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family". The King's younger brother said he continues to "vigorously deny the accusations against me".
Andrew has been living at Royal Lodge in Windsor since the early 2000s, with it being reported that the King has previously tried to move his brother out of the extensive 30-room property.
Buckingham Palace has revealed that Andrew's residence at the property has been unaffected by his decision regarding his title.
The palace confirmed that this is due to the fact that Andrew has a private tenancy agreement with The Crown Estate.
Last year, King Charles reportedly axed an annual £2.9m payment Andrew used to pay his security guards at Royal Lodge.
It was previously reported that Andrew was refusing to leave the home he has lived in since the early 2000s, with one expert previously suggesting that this was likely due to him fearing that it would appear as an admission of guilt.
Despite officially divorcing in 1996, Andrew currently lives at Royal Lodge with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.
The 65-year-old will also no longer use her Duchess of York title.
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie's titles will remain unaffected due to the sisters being male-line granddaughters of the late Queen Elizabeth II - a detail laid out in the Letters Patent of 1917 by King George V.
