Donald Trump has hailed the success of his peace plan between Israel and Hamas but admitted there was one conflict still raging which he thought would be "the quickest of all" to solve. Israel and Hamas have agreed to cease hostilities and implement the first stage of the process to end the war in Gaza after talks in Egypt proved fruitful led by the US and Arab nations.
The US President held a press conference in the Cabinet Room of the White House tonight (Thursday) and said: "We look forward to welcoming the hostages, like you can't believe, home to their familes, and that'sll take place early next week, Monday or Tuesday." However, he added: "You remember, we settled seven, this is number eight, we settled seven wars, or major conflicts, but wars, and this is number eight.
"The one that I thought maybe would be the quickest of all, would be Russia-Ukraine, and I think that's going to happen too, but in the meantime they are losing about 7,000 people a week and that seems pretty bad. Mostly soldiers, young soldiers, they go out to war and they are getting killed."
According to Israel-Hamas peace agreement, Israel will also withdraw troops to a line that was agreed on by all parties. The ceasefire is expected to come into effect this evening after Israel ratifies it, Benjamin Netanyahu's office has sdaid. His cabinet will meet at 5pm local time (3pm UK time) to sign the deal, followed by a meeting of the government.
