This picturesque town in the UK has been recognised as one of the prettiest in the country, and it's just a short journey from one of Britain's most iconic cities.

Located in Wiltshire, Bradford on Avon has been ranked among the top 10 prettiest towns in the UK, according to CN Traveller. Just eight miles from the stunning city of Bath, it offers a similar charm and beauty, but with fewer crowds. Bradford on Avon is brimming with things to see and do, especially during the cooler months. You can spend an afternoon relaxing in one of its cosy cafés and restaurants or you can wander around its quaint streets. For example, The Shambles, a historic area lined with independent boutiques and shops selling unique finds, is the perfect place to explore.

While you're walking around the town, you can't miss a walk over the river.

One person who passed over the Bradford on Avon Bridge said: "Lovely old bridge from years ago and still in use. Beautiful in all respects. The structure is bold and strong and it is a historical artefact."

Another must-see spot is Iford Manor. The Peto Garden, a Grade I listed Italian-style garden will remind you more of Italy's Tuscany than the English countryside.

One visitor on Tripadvisor said: "Beautiful, peaceful gardens with many attractive architectural features. It felt like being in Italy on the sunny day we visited.

"We ate lunch in the first-class restaurant. It was a tasty treat, which was an added bonus."

While in the area, be sure to take a peaceful stroll along the Bradford-on-Avon Wharf, once the busiest wharf on the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Today, it's a tranquil spot where you can admire historic canal features and watch boats drift by.

Another visitor penned: "Bradford on Avon is a really busy little town with lots of quirky shops.

"Down by the canal and lock it's quiet and peaceful, even when plenty of boats are passing through."

If you'd like to explore Bath as well, it's just a 15 minute train ride or a 20 minute drive from Bradford on Avon.

A weekend is the perfect amount of time to enjoy both destinations - offering a relaxing and scenic escape.
