Cleaning guru Mrs Hinch has shared a budget-friendly trick to remove stubborn tea and coffee stains from mugs and cups. While cleaning can be rewarding when you witness the results, it can also prove frustrating when confronted with persistent marks requiring considerable effort. Have you ever spotted those stubborn tea stains on your mugs that simply refuse to budge, regardless of how vigorously you scrub? It can be frustrating.
Mrs Hinch shared her swift and simple technique to eliminate irritating stains within seconds, especially from mugs and crockery - and it costs just 3p, with absolutely no scrubbing required. While these marks pose no health risk, they can leave your mugs looking dirty and unhygienic, even following washing, and can prove troublesome to scrub away.
Admirers of Mrs Hinch have applauded this hassle-free approach to removing the stains, demanding zero scrubbing - all that's needed is a denture tablet available for just £1.
Those who've tried it insist it renders their tea and coffee mugs "sparkling" - and journalist Angela Patrone chose to trial this trick after spotting it "doing the rounds" on Facebook.
Equipped with a stained teacup and a denture tablet, she was prepared to test it out, Angela said: "I started by boiling the kettle and adding one denture tablet to the stained cup.
"I used Steradent denture tablets, which retail for £1 in Tesco. This comes in a pack of 30, so it works out as 3p per tablet."
Cleaning fans on the Mrs Hinch cleaning tips page say that any brand will do the job. After boiling her kettle, Angela poured the hot water into the cup, making sure all stains were covered.
Angela said: "I then let the denture tablet solution sit for about five minutes. As soon as the water touched the tablet, it began to fizz and work its magic. Once the five minutes were up, all I had to do was drain the water and rinse the cup."
She noticed that the brown stains had "completely vanished" without any scrubbing or wiping required - and she said that the "main reason denture tablets are so effective is because they contain baking soda and citric acid".
Angela added: "These two ingredients react together, causing the tablet to fizz and dissolve the stains. Denture tablets can also be used to remove limescale from kettles, stubborn burnt food from pans, and even clean shower heads, demonstrating their usefulness as a cleaning product."
