'Outrage' as council tows van with UK flag after 'ignoring Palestine flag' for months

A council has been accused of removing a vehicle after a St Georges Cross was added to the side of it, despite it being left for months with a Palestine flag displayed. Two residents in Brighton have fumed over the "two-tier" systems, claiming they perceive it as discriminatory treatment. Ryan Bishop and Josh Amble told GB News: "It was there for a good six months and a lot of people contacted the council, they didn't want to know. It wasn't removed.

"The second our cross gets put up, it gets removed straight away. It proves our two-tier society. It's disgusting."

The pair said that Brighton and Hove City Council had acted swiftly to remove the caravan after the St Georges cross was displayed, yet failed to take action while another flag was on it.

"I think it's an absolute outrage. We're shut down and silenced and get called far-right and racist when something like this happens. It gets worse and worse," Mr Bishop added.

The vehicle was reportedly parked on Coldean road for around six months without the council removing it. The news channel reported that numerous residents in the area had complained during that period.

However, the local authority only acted on the complaints following the painting of the British flag, it is understood.

The council has issued a statement in defense, claiming the caravan was removed under Section 143 of The Highways Act due to a non-motorised vehicle being kept on a public road.

An official statement from the council said: "The caravan was put under formal notice on 7 July 2025. As is our standard policy in these circumstances, we had been liaising with the owner as a first stage, who had assured us it would be moved."

The owner reportedly did not move the caravan by the deadline provided, therefore contractors were hired to remove it. The council said it was one of three vehicles removed from different locations during the same enforcement operation.

"This is about so much more than raising flags, it's about bringing the community together," Mr Amble said of the recent wave of British flags cropping up across the UK.

"Why can't we show pride in our country but we can for Palestine and pro-Hamas views? It's disgusting. All I want to see is British flags in our country and our views. Not left-wing views all the time," he told Martin Daubney during his TV appearance.
