Netflix interrupts Selling Sunset Season 9 to issue urgent statement to viewers

Netflix interrupted the latest instalment of Selling Sunset to deliver an important message to audiences.

The property programme has made its comeback for a ninth run, with favourites Chrishell Stause, Chelsea Lazkani, Emma Hernan, Nicole Young, Alanna Gold, Mary Bonnet, Amanza Smith, and Bre Tiesi returning to The Oppenheim Group.

Picking up from the eighth instalment, this ten-part series transports audiences to Los Angeles, where the estate agents' clientele ranges from Jojo Siwa to Tyrese Gibson.

But before audiences could watch the opening instalment, Netflix issued a message regarding the wildfires that devastated Los Angeles earlier this year.

Speaking directly to viewers, the streaming service stated: "In light of the devastating wildfires that impacted Los Angeles and the surrounding areas in January 2025, we would like to acknowledge that several episodes of Selling Sunset were filmed prior to this tragedy," reports the Mirror.

The message proceeded to extend appreciation towards emergency personnel who sprang into action.

"Thank you to the first responders, fire fighters and the brave people who worked tirelessly, to protect and restore hope as we rebuild our beautiful city," Netflix added.

Whilst the programme begins before the blazes, it explores how the catastrophe affected The O Group team members from episode five onwards.

Speaking about the disaster, Chrishell, 44, remarked: "In Los Angeles, I feel like every single person knows somebody that lost everything, it is that ever-present."

Marie-Charlotte, the former assistant to Jason Oppenheim, visited the real estate office and shared her heart-wrenching ordeal. She recounted how she had been working from home when two fires erupted nearby, forcing her to rush to collect her daughters from school.

However, due to the rapid spread of the fires, they were unable to return home.

"I have nothing," Marie confessed, adding: "So, no more home, no more business. The girls' school burnt. My bank burnt, with the safe. Like, literally nothing."

Chrishell herself had previously lost a home to a fire at just 12 years old, and became tearful as she reflected on her experience.

"...home represents a safe place in the world. And when you don't have that, it's really hard to go through the world and function. So, I just hate that anybody's going through that. It's the worst," the actress explained.
