Reuniting with family can be a daunting task, but for Jamie-Lee Arrow, the daughter of Isakin Jonsson, infamous as the 'Skara Cannibal', it's a particularly distressing experience. Her father earned the ominous nickname after brutally murdering and cannibalising his girlfriend, Helle Christensen.
At just nine years old, Jamie-Lee's life was irreparably altered by her father's heinous crime. The woman she regarded as a second mother after her parents divorced when she was still a toddler was viciously slaughtered.
The gruesome act, involving Ms. Christensen's decapitation and Jonsson's consumption of her body parts, is etched in Sweden's history as one of its most atrocious murders. Following his 2011 conviction, Jonsson was confined to a psychiatric facility.
Jamie-Lee has now come forward to reveal the traumatic experience of being entangled in her father's twisted world.
"My dad definitely brainwashed me and has done since I was three years old," she disclosed in a conversation with MailOnline, reports the Mirror US.
"He has always exposed me to the dark side, with the devil and demons and evil spirits, and that has always been a part of my reality - a part of my everyday life.
"He was preparing my brain for it for as long as I remember because he wanted me to be him. He always said that: 'You are me, you are a better version of me'."
Jamie-Lee's childhood was split between two contrasting worlds - a paradigm of serenity at her mother's and a realm of shadows in her father's home.
Her mother's residence embodied warmth and normalcy, whereas her father's abode was a macabre and unsettling refuge for the little girl.
Jamie-Lee recounts that Jonsson had an eccentric habit of watching horror films and crafting eerie voodoo dolls. She navigated her life on tenterhooks, with her father oscillating unpredictably between doting parent and dismissive stranger.
She reminisced about sensing Helle's love for Jamie-Lee's father, despite feeling the affection wasn't reciprocated by Jonsson.
Jamie-Lee reflected on the sporadic times of joy that were overshadowed by frequent quarrels. Her father's grasp on reality seemed to loosen, paving the way for a situation that turned increasingly dark, as moments of happiness grew sparse.
The harrowing saga reached its zenith during what Jamie-Lee describes as the 'worst' weekend of her life - a haunting memory she holds to this day. Helle delivered a grim forewarning just before her untimely demise, etching her last words indelibly into Jamie-Lee's memory as Helle fell victim to murder by Jonsson's hand.
Discovery's true crime series Evil Lives Here: The Killer Speaks recently broadcast Jamie-Lee's chilling account.
Jamie-Lee said: "She [Helle] cooked some food for us. As she served it, she went, like, 'enjoy your meal because this is the last thing you'll ever eat from me because your dad is going to kill me.' That's one of the last things I ever heard her say."
The revelation turned into a grim reality for Jamie-Lee, who tragically never encountered Helle again. It was at the tender age of 13 that she grasped the harrowing meaning behind the term 'cannibal', which filled her with a sense of betrayal by her father.
Upon their reunion, Jamie-Lee initially described the encounter with her long-estranged father as emotional and comforting, but it dawned on her that he'd been deceitfully manipulating her since her youth.
Her journey to understanding revealed that her dad cleverly cast himself in a positive light while demonising his girlfriend, leading to Jamie-Lee's brainwashing against his partner-a misconception that took years to unravel. Chillingly, when she reached maturity, Jamie-Lee was confronted with a shocking query from her father, asking if she wanted details about how he ended his partner's life.
"He showed no remorse. He almost said it with passion. And, I was sitting there wanting to throw up. He almost had a smirk on his face," recounted Jamie-Lee, appalled.
"That's the first time I truly felt in my body that my dad was not well. This man is sick," she admitted.
Jamie-Lee has endured the traumatic aftermath with battles against depression and substance abuse following the heinous murder committed by her father.
Now 23, Jamie-Lee herself a mother, asserts she's engaged in a nurturing relationship and, for her two children's future, has resolutely decided to cut ties permanently with her murderous father.
