
Firefighters are tackling a huge fire on Lewisham High Street in south London after locals heard an electrical generator "explode." Dramatic pictures taken at the scene show thick smoke billowing into the sky. Residents and local businesses are being urged to keep windows shut and stay away from Lewisham High Street and Curness Street due to heavy smoke and ongoing emergency operations.
Transport disruption is likely, with buses reportedly diverted from Lewisham High Street while firefighters tackle the incident. A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: "Crews are responding to a fire at a commercial premises off Lewisham High Street. We urge members of the public to avoid the area while operations continue."
