The UK industry, once promised a renaissance after , was thoroughly betrayed by the . Is it about to be sold out again by 's globalist ?
The Brexit negotiations were meant to "take back control" of British waters, but they delivered nothing but disappointment. Coastal communities that fought for sovereignty were left at the mercy of EU quotas.
And now, as negotiations are set to be revisited next year, will Labour fight for British fishermen, or will they fold to Brussels, just as they have on other key issues?
Under the Tories, our fishing communities were given a raw deal. Despite all the bluster about reclaiming sovereignty, 's government signed away our coastal rights. The UK's trade agreement with the EU allowed for a mere 25 percent reduction in the EU's fishing quota, with the promise that the UK could exclude EU boats after 2026. But at what cost?
The EU holds the cards, threatening tariffs on British fishing exports or blocking UK boats from accessing EU waters. And now, Labour, with Keir Starmer at the helm, is poised to revisit these negotiations. Will he stand firm and finally give the UK full control of its waters? It's doubtful. Starmer has made it abundantly clear that he favours closer alignment with the EU.
Starmer's globalist agenda should alarm every fishing community. His promise of closer EU ties likely means a continuation of the status quo and more EU regulations, more quotas, and even less control over British waters. Labour's disdain for industries that represent British independence is already evident.
The closure of the UK's virgin steel industry with Tata Steel's move out of the UK is yet another example of their willingness to sacrifice national industries in favour of globalism. Starmer's Labour is a party that will sell out British interests, whether it's our steel or our fish.
European ministers have reportedly pushed Foreign Secretary to involve the UK in EU peacekeeping and conflict missions, with further talks of rejoining the EU's youth mobility scheme. If Labour are entertaining the idea of tying our military to an EU defence force, can anyone really believe Keir Starmer's Government will stand up for British fishermen?
If Starmer's Labour can't resist EU pressure on foreign policy, there's no chance they'll fight for our fishing industry. Labour's capitulation to Brussels is inevitable, and our fishermen will be sacrificed for the closer ties to the EU Kier Starmer is so desperate for.
Brexit was supposed to give us back control of our own waters. But under Starmer's leadership, we can expect to see even more power handed back to Brussels. Will he fight to fully reclaim our fishing rights, or will he buckle under EU pressure? All signs point to the latter.
Starmer has consistently advocated for deeper alignment with the EU, and it's hard to imagine him taking a strong stance. As we approach 2026, Britain faces a crucial moment. We have the right to exclude EU boats from our waters entirely. But that will require a strong leader who puts British interests first, something Starmer has proven time and again he won't do.
He has already paved the way for closer ties with the EU in every sector. His handling of the fishing negotiations will be no different.
The Tories may have failed our fishermen, but Labour will be the final nail in the coffin. If Starmer's globalist vision prevails, the fishing industry will be yet another casualty of Britain's slow surrender to Brussels.
