viewers believe they have cracked the mystery surrounding Joel Deering's murder.

The ITV soap will confirm next week that the villainous character is dead after his body was discovered floating in the river by three young men, a fortnight after he vanished.

A post-mortem will establish that Joel was already dead before entering the water. The gripping storyline has kept fans on edge since it was revealed that Joel was the attacker who left Lauren Bolton for dead, leading to him to run from Weatherfield.

Now, with his death confirmed, speculation is rife about who could be his killer. Names such as DS Lisa Swain, Dee-Dee Bailey and Lauren Bolton herself have been suggested by fans.

However, following a scene aired on Friday, many are convinced that Kit could be the culprit. Despite the police currently being in the dark about Joel's demise, DS Swain has been removed from the case, leaving Kit Green at the helm.

Could this seemingly insignificant scene hint at Kit being Joel's murderer?

Coronation Street viewers have been vocal on Twitter about Kit's overconfidence as a lead detective. One fan expressed, "Kit's getting too damn big for his britches as a TEMPORARY lead detective. #Corrie," while another shared their distrust: "I hope Lisa takes Kit down! I dont trust him one bit! #Corrie."

A third chimed in to add: "Kit couldn't run a bath let alone an actual case. Lisa will enjoy watching him fail #corrie," and a fourth wrote: "#Corrie How does Kit get to speak to Swain like that?"

DS Swain's attempt to contribute to the investigation was dismissed by Kit, who insisted he didn't need her help. The camera's focus on Kit's expression afterwards left fans wondering if it hinted at his involvement in Joel's murder.

The plot thickens as Mason Radcliffe emerges as a key suspect following a post-mortem suggesting Joel was killed with a crowbar. Mason's suspicious attempt to ditch his crowbar, which Kit catches him doing, puts him in a precarious position.

Other characters such as Max Turner, Ronnie Bailey, Ed Bailey, and even DS Swain's daughter Betsy are not above suspicion due to their dubious actions. The question remains: who is truly behind Joel's demise, and will they be brought to justice unlike Joel?

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm.
