Manchester United suffered a humiliating Carabao Cup defeat against Grimsby last month as the Red Devils were knocked out of the competition in the second round. But the League Two club were then sanctioned for fielding an ineligible player.
Ruben Amorim's side have endured a difficult start to the season after finishing 15th in the Premier League last term. They would have been desperate for a cup run as they aren't in Europe this season. But the 13-time Premier League champions were second best against Grimsby and ultimately lost on penalties after fighting back from 2-0 down. There has been plenty of reaction to Grimsby's administrative oversight after they failed to register Clarke Oduor in time following his loan transfer from Bradford. And Express Sport looks at everything we know about the situation.
Replay decision
The EFL confirmed that Grimsby would be slapped with a £20,000 fine following their misdemeanour.
And the club have been allowed to keep their place in the competition as they look forward to facing Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in the third round next Tuesday.
The EFL made no reference to a replay between Grimsby and United as they released a statement to outline the League Two club's punishment last week.
"The EFL Board, acting as the management committee of the Carabao Cup, has today fined Grimsby Town Football Club £20,000 - of which £10,000 will be suspended until the end of Season 2025/26 - for having breached the rules of the competition," the statement read.
"Following a comprehensive review of all the evidence and considering prior decisions taken in respect of offences in the League Cup, the board determined that the issuing of a fine followed precedent."

Manager comments
Grimsby manager David Artell said that his team will "move on" following the incident as he maintained that no one could take the result away from them.
Ahead of Grimsby's victory over MK Dons on Saturday, the 44-year-old explained: "From my point of view as head coach, no one can take away that performance, nobody can.
"We were the better team for 70 minutes or for 75 minutes. We should have been 3-0 regardless of everything else that has gone off since, and I am extremely proud of the performance of the players, all of the players. I thought we deserved to win the game.
"What happens surrounding that isn't in my domain but, like I say, nobody can take away the performance of the players and the manner of the victory, certainly not in my eyes anyway.
"What happened was unfortunate, we owned up, made a statement, let everyone know and we move on."
New verdicts
A host of pundits have given their verdicts on the decision to keep Grimsby in the Carabao Cup, with former England striker Darren Bent declaring: "You have to question Grimsby's place in the competition."
And ex-Chelsea forward Jason Cundy explained: "First off, if you break the rules like that I don't see how Grimsby can be in the competition, I genuinely don't.
"It sounds harsh, but if that had happened the other way round, would we say, 'Nah, its fine, £20,000 fine for Man Utd. Are we now judging it by the club?
"They broke the rules - I'm sorry, you have to leave the competition. I don't think Man Utd should get in either by the way. They got knocked out. What should happen now, whoever they're facing, they should get a bye."
