If you've ever decided to change up your furniture and move an old dresser, you're likely familiar with the dreaded carpet dents. These unsightly marks make your carpet look old and worn and can seriously spoil new furniture additions to your home if they have to be left uncovered.
However, there's a simple and free way to completely eliminate these ugly marks - and it takes zero effort to make it work. A little bit of water goes a long way to rehydrating your carpet fibres and making them fluff up again - but simply dumping a glass of water on the carpet is not the way to go about it.
Simply place an ice cube in the dent and allow it to melt gradually. This method means the fibres are wet but won't become weighed down by loads of water. Once the ice is entirely melted, gently blot away any excess water.
After it's melted, use a coin or spoon edge to gently lift the fibres, or run a hoover over the area to fluff the carpet up again.
Clothes steamerFor deeper dents, a clothes steamer is a good idea. Just make sure if you choose this method that you hold the steamer above the carpet, as placing it too close can burn the fibres especially if your carpet is made of synthetic material.
A third option is to use a cloth and an iron - but be careful if you choose this route. Use a damp, clean cloth to ensure the carpet doesn't burn and carefully run the iron over it. Don't overdo this one - one or two minutes will be long enough to remove the dent, Just like with the ice method, consider lifting the carpet pile with a spoon after the ironing is done.
HairdryerIn a pinch, a hair dryer will work too. Lightly dampen the carpet with a spray bottle, then use a hair dryer from a few inches away to dry it while gently rubbing the pile with your fingers to puff it back up - essentially, you're giving your rug a blowout.
