buffs have been left "gripped" after discovering an "unmissable" audio drama about the conflict. Released by in the nineties, that drama is Bomber, based on the novel by Len Deighton.
Comprised of four episodes, the series tells the true story of RAF Lancaster crews' planned bombing raid over Nazi Germany, which left many British and German lives forever changed. As well as featuring interviews with the real Lancaster bombers, it's interspersed with a dramatisation of the novel's story with a full cast recording.
Over on , fans couldn't recommend it enough, as one fan wondered; "Anyone know any good WWII audio dramas? I've been watching Band of Brothers, and would love to find something similar that I could listen to when I'm in the car. Would love to find a fictional (or based on truth like Band of Brothers) drama based on WWII."

One user replied: "Back in 1995 Radio 4 did a real-time docu-drama of Len Deighton's novel Bomber. It interspersed interviews with former Lancaster bomber crew with a full cast dramatisation of the story of the novel.
"You might still be able to get the audio cd of it somewhere. Alternatively, I'm pretty sure there copies of it somewhere floating around the interwebs. Try as a first port of call..."
The CD is actually available to purchase from , though BBC Radio last aired it in 2011. It stars Tom Baker, Jack Shepherd, Frank Windsor and Samuel West, and has been branded "thrilling, action-packed and ultimately poignant".
One fan of the drama admitted: "They went for a high degree of historical accuracy and realism so some parts are quite harrowing. There's a couple of scenes that have stuck with me to this day after first hearing it when I was 5 or 6.
"That being said, it is a very good adaptation and definitely well worth a listen. The interview sections are particularly fascinating."
