A food influencer has recommended adding one ingredient to sausage and mash to make it "mega". The dish is a dinner-time favourite across the UK, with plenty of comforting meat and carbohydrates to refuel you after a busy day. It is usually topped with a hefty helping of gravy, and what sausages you choose are up to you. Whether they are herby, or have a sweet kick. Vinegar and stock are also possible additions, as well as roasted onions, soy and red wine.
But WhatWillyCook, an Instagram chef with more than 700,000 followers in partnership with Pilgrim's Choice, has suggested a twist, which you'll likely have tucked away in a cupboard somewhere. He told the Express: "Cheddar cheese classically goes really well with sweet chutneys, so one way of jazzing up bangers and mash is to do a really cheddary mash, and at the same time use up some old chutneys from a failed cheeseboard or Christmas spread.
"Glaze the bangers with that just before they're fully cooked, it's mega."
It is no wonder the dish has stuck around for so long.
A Reddit user wrote: "It's delicious.
"It's also cheap.
"Sausages are a way to use off cuts of pork and make them palatable.
"Potatoes are cheap and easy to grow.
"Generally, it would be served with something green in season, but nowadays, it's probably just peas.
"Again, cheap and easy to grow."
A different person added: "It's a dish you can whip up in 20 minutes, with very few ingredients, or one you can spend hours making, in order to create a gormet experience.
"What's not to love?"
Will added: "I like to have fun with food, I always have and I maybe always will.
"Can cheese go in ice cream?
"From my meticulous research it has become far more of a possibility than previously considered.
"Cheddar with mussels has also been a revelation.
"Pilgrims Choice has encouraged a sense of flavour freedom and I reckon that's a brilliant thing".
He also urges his followers to try out vanilla ice cream with cheddar crisp, pickled onion crisp crumbs and olive oil drizzle, as well as a cheddar stuffed apple pie.
