Shimla Court Orders Demolition of Unauthorized Floors of Sanjauli Mosque

Send Push

Shimla: The Shimla district court has directed the demolition of three unauthorized floors of the Sanjauli mosque building, as confirmed by a lawyer representing the Waqf Board in the case. Advocate BS Thakur stated, "The court has passed orders that the mosque committee and Waqf Board should demolish the top three floors of the mosque at their own cost. They have been given a time limit of two months for the demolition."

The court will decide on the remaining portions of the building in due course, with the next hearing scheduled for December 21. The mosque committee has provided an undertaking to carry out the demolition of the unauthorized floors.

The dispute arose from the mosque's construction, which originally was a single-story structure but has reportedly been expanded to five stories without proper authorization. The Waqf Board asserts ownership of the land, while local residents contest this claim, arguing that the land belongs to the state revenue department and asserting that the mosque's expansion has caused various difficulties for them.

Tensions surrounding the issue have led to protests by local Hindu groups calling for the mosque's demolition, framing it as an illegal construction matter rather than a communal issue.
