India US ceasefire talks The Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that there was no discussion on the issue of tariff in the ceasefire talks between India and the US. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India's opposition on this issue is clear. Let us tell you that Trump has been continuously saying that he played an important role in the ceasefire.
India has once again reiterated that the issue of tariff was not discussed in the talks with the US regarding ceasefire. During the press briefing of the Ministry of External Affairs, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that India's opposition on this particular issue is clear. Talks took place between India and the US from the start of Operation Sindoor on May 7 to its end on May 10, but during that time trade and tariff were not discussed.
What did the Trump administration say?
Let us tell you that Trump administration's Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick made this comment in a document submitted to the International Trade Court last week, in which he argued that Trump had exercised his emergency powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to impose tariffs for the purpose of protecting American national security and economy.
"The ceasefire between India and Pakistan was possible only after President Trump intervened and the US used tariffs and trade to prevent the two countries from breaking into a full-blown war," Lutnick claimed in his application.
Trump taking credit for India-Pakistan ceasefire
Trump has repeatedly claimed to have helped ease tensions between India and Pakistan and has told the nuclear-armed South Asian neighbours that the US would do more business with them if they stopped fighting.
India gave a befitting reply to Pakistan
Let us tell you that on 22 April, Pakistan-sponsored terrorists killed 26 Indians in Pahalgam. After this incident, India launched Operation Sindoor against the terrorists sitting in Pakistan. More than 100 terrorists were killed in this operation. Pakistan got furious after the killing of the terrorists and fired hundreds of drones against India.
Indian Air Defence shot down all the drones. After this, the Indian Air Force gave a befitting reply to Pakistan. After four days of military conflict, talks were held between the DGMOs (Director General of Military Operations) of both the countries. Both the countries decided to ceasefire.
