The first death due to Covid has been reported in Chandigarh, which has caused concern in the administration. Four days ago, a 40-year-old man from Ludhiana tested positive for Corona and died yesterday after being admitted to the hospital. The administration has appealed to the people to be cautious about Corona.
The first death due to Covid-19 infection has been reported in the city. A 40-year-old man from Ludhiana, admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH-32) in Sector-32, died.
The patient was admitted to the hospital emergency four days ago due to difficulty in breathing. When his condition did not improve, the doctors conducted a Covid test, which came out positive on Tuesday. He died a day later on Wednesday.
Special isolation unit ready in hospital
GMCH-32 Director Dr. A.K. Atre confirmed that the infected patient was immediately isolated and treatment was started, but due to severe symptoms he could not be saved. The hospital has prepared a special isolation unit of 10 beds in view of the possibility of corona.
This case has come to light at a time when concerns are being raised again about the return of Covid in the city and surrounding areas. Earlier on May 23, a 51-year-old woman from Yamunanagar in Haryana was found Covid positive in Mohali. She had come to attend a religious gathering in Punjab.
Vigilance increased, Covid testing accelerated
PGI and GMCH-32 have increased Covid testing and monitoring. PGI expert Dr PVM Lakshmi said that there is no need to panic at the moment, but the uncertain nature of Covid cannot be ignored. She has appealed to people to get tested immediately if they notice symptoms like cough, fever or cold.
Dr Lakshmi also said that the current vaccination is still effective, but if the new variant spreads rapidly then a booster dose or a new vaccination campaign can be started.
