Benefits of applying alum on the skin: It is believed that applying alum on the face reduces freckles and the skin looks absolutely clean. Let's know what skin experts say about this.
Skin Care: Freckles on the face are a common problem. Especially women are more troubled by this problem. Freckles are small light brown spots on the skin, which are caused by excessive production of melanin. Apart from this, freckles can also occur due to spending more time in the sun, excessive use of chemical based products or genes. Now, it is believed that the problem of freckles can be reduced by applying alum. Alum has some properties which help in skin lightening, due to which applying alum on the face makes the skin look clear. Let's know what skin experts say about this-
What do the experts say?
During a special conversation with NDTV on the matter, famous dermatologist Nirupama Parvanda said, 'Alum has astringent and anti-inflammatory properties, which can benefit the skin and make it lighter and brighter. However, there is no solid scientific evidence of its long-term use in curing pigmentation or melasma. On the contrary, excessive use of alum can also make the skin dry and irritated.'
Then how can freckles be cured?
For this, skin experts advise to pay attention to 3 things.
Number 1 - Sun Protection
Dermatologists say that UV rays of the sun increase freckles, so it is important to apply broad spectrum sunscreen (SPF 50+ and PA+++ or more) daily, no matter what the weather.
Number 2- Depigmenting creams and serums
According to dermatologists, regular use of depigmenting creams and serums can reduce melanin production on the skin, which can also help in reducing freckles. For this, use serums or depigmenting creams containing ingredients like vitamin C, niacinamide, kojic acid, tranexamic acid, alpha-arbutin and tetrahydrocurcumin. All these help in gradually reducing pigmentation and freckles.
Number 3 - Exfoliation
Removing the upper layer of the skin can also reduce pigmentation or freckles. For this, exfoliants like glycolic acid, lactic acid and mandelic acid can be used.
In this way, dermatologists recommend following proper skin care instead of adopting home remedies to remove freckles from the face.
