Liverpool already have six targets in mind if Newcastle remain firm in their stance of not selling Alexander Isak. The Reds made an approach for the Sweden international on Tuesday and informed the Magpies they would be willing to pay a record transfer fee.
The £120million touted appears to have done little to sway Newcastle, however, who remain adamant they have no plans to sell the striker after he scored 23 goals in the Premier League last season. Eddie Howe's side stance has not changed despite the suggestion Liverpool's approach is seen as an attempt to 'unsettle' Isak.
There has been no bid from Anfield thus far however, and Arne Slot's team are preparing for the possibility that they will need to look elsewhere. One such avenue is in the direction of a Newcastle target.
Liverpool are eyeing Hugo Ekitike having retained an interest in the forward and could make a bid should they give up on Isak. Newcastle had hoped to sign the French Eintracht Frankfurt forward to play alongside their star striker, and are said to have had a £70m bid rejected.
But Liverpool have enquired over a number of options. The Merseyside club have asked about Ollie Watkins and Yoane Wissa of Aston Villa and Brentford respectively, and even discussed Victor Osimhen with Napoli in discussions over Darwin Nunez, report the Mail.

The club are also aware of Rodrygo's potential availability from Real Madrid. The Brazilian forward has struggled to make an impact under new boss Xabi Alonso thus far and is said to be permitted to leave should it be his desire this summer.
Most surprisingly of all, Marcus Rashford's name was also brought up in a conversation. The Manchester United forward is set to be sold this summer but there is little chance of a switch to his club's rivals with no progress beyond the prospect being floated.
Rashford is currently training away from United's first team having spent the latter half of last season on loan with Aston Villa. The England international has no place in Ruben Amorim's plans but has yet to earn a transfer as the Red Devils look to bring in £40m for the forward.

Liverpool have already made significant signings this summer in Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong. But the Reds still have plenty of business to undertake with departures expected.
Current forward Darwin Nunez looks set to depart, while Luis Diaz could yet leave, despite the club's insistance he is not for sale. Liverpool have rejected a £58.6m bid from Bayern Munichbut Diaz, 28, is understood to be interested in making the move.
The club value him in excess of £86m (€100m) but refuse to put a price on him given their position.
