There may well be a green solution if you're looking to tackle the age-old problem of on your windows and walls.

As we move from autumnal breezes towards wintry chills, many battle with unwanted moisture fogging up their glass panes and chilling their rooms. This isn't just a nuisance – left unchecked, it can lead to mould and all sorts of damage in your home.

Rummaging through harsh chemicals to fight damp may seem like the only option, but enthusiasts are suggesting something far more natural and pretty to look at - plants. It seems there's a certain leafy friend that is catching the eye of gardeners everywhere.

On the hunt to combat her own home's condensation conundrum, Brenda Steele sought advice from the Gardening UK community, asking: "Has anyone had spider or snake plants and are they any good? I need something to help with the condensation in my house and these read like they will help."

Soon enough, fellow gardeners were quick to root for these houseplants. Tracey Robson endorsed them, revealing she’s got several herself and has kicked condensation to the kerb: "Spider and snake plants are the best. They're super easy to grow I have about three or four and I haven't had any condensation."

Also chiming in was Stef Brooks, who gave a shout out to her snake plant's air-purifying prowess, saying: "I have a snake plant in the bedroom. It is supposed to help with the air quality. I forget all about it and it still survives." Not missing out on praising another hardy variety, Stef shared: "I also have a spider plant on top of a cupboard. I neglect this one too because it is too high for me to water. It seems to be okay though."

Cementing their status as true survivors, she concluded: "They are both really easy and I don't find that I have any condensation in my house." Gemma Hutton shared her green-fingered tip, saying: "My conservatory and bedrooms are full of these plants and I never have condensation on my windows, but the rest of the bedroom where I don't have any I do so I think it's probably working."

Plant experts at Jay Scotts also tout the benefits of houseplants, stating both snake and spider plants can "prevent condensation" and fend off mould, They advise: "If you're looking for the best plants that absorb humidity without much of an investment, these are definitely the perfect plants for you."

Their guidance suggests placing such plants in areas prone to dampness within the home, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms.
