Emmerdale fans 'work out who got shot' by Cain - and it's 'not John'

There appeared to be a shooting on Emmerdale in the latest episode, with fans convinced one character will face death.

It was teased that Cain Dingle had taken a brutal revenge against killer John Sugden after finally catching up with him. John began taunting Cain about the death of his son Nate Robinson, who John killed last September.

With Cain desperate for payback, he initially told John he wasn't going to kill him and was intending on having him sent to prison for the rest of his life. But John threw a spanner in the works with the confession that he'd scheduled an email to the police confirming details about the murder of Anthony Fox.

Of course this email would reveal Anthony was killed by his daughter Ruby Miligan, and that the crime was covered up by Ruby, Cain, John, Caleb Miligan and Chas and Aaron Dingle, before Steph Miligan also learned the truth.

Caleb fretted as John claimed the email would be sent if he wasn't allowed to flee. Whether he was killed or sent to prison, John vowed the truth about Anthony, including where he's buried, would be shared.

Cain called his bluff though, not convinced about it at all especially as it would leave John's husband Aaron in prison. Caleb begged his brother Cain to think about the threat before taking any further action.

But as they bickered over what to do, John climbed out of the dug grave he was standing in and went to grab a rock. No doubt plotting his freedom, he went to attack Cain who was wielding a shotgun.

With that Cain suddenly spun around, having realised what John was up to. He warned John that this was "the last mistake he would ever make".

As the camera panned away from the area, the gun went off. But was someone shot, or was Cain trying to scare John? Fans are convinced someone will be shot, and that it might not be John.

Fans think there will be a struggle for the gun after John's escape bid, and that poor Caleb will end up injured. Taking to X, a new theory shared and backed by viewers suggested it could all be linked to the flashforward scenes that aired last December.

In one of them it was Cain at a graveside, which appears to be Nate's. But some inconsistencies in the scene left some fans sure another funeral would be filmed, and now the theory suggests it could be Caleb's.

So do Cain and John struggle, leaving Caleb injured? The theory read: "I hope Cain hasn’t shot Caleb in a scuffle and that’s who’s grave we saw in the flash forward."
