The One Show hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp concluded Tuesday's programme with a heartfelt tribute to Robert Redford.
Presenter Alex announced: "Now we've heard the sad news announced today of the Hollywood legend, Robert Redford, has died at the age of 89."
She then turned to programme guest Stephen Fry, asking about his recollections of the departed icon, with Stephen acknowledging he was a "big fan".

"Stephen, of course like many others, you were a big fan of lots of his films," she said.
He responded: "I was, from the very beginning. I remember an early film of his, Barefoot in the Park, with Jane Fonda when he was a really young man. The Candidate, a fabulous political movie. One of the best sports movies ever made, The Natural, I absolutely adore that film.", reports Wales Online.
"And of course, pairing with the great Paul Newman in Butch Cassidy and then The Sting, and then the extraordinary thing that he basically kickstarted the independent movement with the founding of the Sundance Festival, an incredible achievement to this day."
Redford passed away earlier today at the age of 89, with his publicist confirming he died at his residence "at Sundance in the mountains of Utah - the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved".
"He will be missed greatly," she added in a statement, noting his family, including his wife and two daughters, have requested privacy. Redford wed Sibylle Szaggars in 2009, having previously been married to Lola Van Wagenen, with whom he had four children before their divorce in 1985.
Their son James tragically died of cancer at 58 in 2020, whilst another of their children passed away at just two months old.

The star made his cinema debut in War Hunt in 1962, later appearing in films such as The Sting, Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid, Out of Africa and All The President's Men.
He received an honorary lifetime achievement Oscar in 2002, and announced that 2018's The Old Man and The Gun would mark his final on-screen performance.
Numerous Hollywood luminaries have paid their respects, with Jane Fonda revealing: "It hit me hard this morning when I read that Bob was gone. I can't stop crying.
"He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way. He stood for an America we have to keep fighting for."
Meryl Streep, who appeared alongside Redford in Out of Africa, offered her tribute by saying "one of the lions has passed".
She continued in a statement through her publicist: "Rest in peace my lovely friend."
