Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar may not have delivered a standout performance against Punjab Kings in their recent IPL 2025 clash, but he still managed to script history. Despite scoring a modest 23 runs off 18 balls in a match that ended in RCB’s third consecutive home defeat, Patidar achieved a personal milestone that has put him in elite company.
Patidar Breaks Sachin Tendulkar's RecordWith this innings, Rajat Patidar became the second-fastest Indian player to reach 1000 runs in IPL history, achieving the feat in just 30 innings. In doing so, he broke the record previously held by Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who reached the milestone in 31 innings. The top spot still belongs to Sai Sudharsan of Gujarat Titans, who accomplished the landmark in just 25 innings.
Unique Batting Record Among IndiansThat’s not all—Patidar now holds another rare distinction. Among all Indian batters who have scored over 1000 runs in the IPL, he is the only one with a batting average over 35 and a strike rate above 150. This combination of consistency and aggression is rare and places him alongside international stars such as Chris Gayle, David Miller, Heinrich Klaasen, Shimron Hetmyer, and Travis Head—the only other players with similar numbers.
Exclusive RCB ClubPatidar also joined an exclusive list of players by becoming only the third Indian to score 1000 runs for RCB in the 18-year history of the tournament. He follows in the footsteps of Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, making him part of a very select club within the franchise.
From Injury Replacement to CaptainRajat Patidar’s journey with Royal Challengers Bangalore is nothing short of inspiring. He was initially brought into the squad as an injury replacement during the 2022 season. Since then, he has cemented his place in the team and has now risen to the role of team captain. Under his leadership, RCB began IPL 2025 on a high note, winning their first seven consecutive matches, including historic victories against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk (after 17 years) and Mumbai Indians at Wankhede (after 10 years).
However, despite the dream start, the team has faced setbacks at home, losing three consecutive matches in their own backyard. Yet Patidar’s form and leadership continue to be a bright spot in RCB’s campaign.
