"I Had Two Fathers, But Felt Alone": Sikandar Kher Opens Up About Emotional Void and Anupam Kher's Role in His Life

Send Push

Despite being born into a family connected to some of the biggest names in Bollywood, Sikandar Kher reveals that his childhood wasn’t as picture-perfect as many may assume. In a deeply emotional interview, Sikandar — son of actress-politician Kirron Kher and her first husband Gautam Berry, and stepson of legendary actor Anupam Kher — opened up about feeling unsupported, despite having two fathers.

"I Had Two Fathers, But No Support From Either"

In a video that’s now making rounds on social media, Sikandar reflects on his childhood:

“Gautam is my biological father who passed away 11 years ago. And Anupam Papa — he’s been my father ever since. But truthfully, neither of them were around much. Both were busy with their own lives.”

He shared that after his parents’ divorce, he lived with his mother and stepfather Anupam Kher. But even then, he often felt alone.

“Anupam Papa’s career was taking off. He was always traveling or working. So I ended up spending most of my time with my mother.”

Anupam Kher's Advice That Shaped Him

Despite the emotional distance, Sikandar holds immense respect for Anupam Kher. He recalls two powerful pieces of advice from his stepfather that left a lasting impact:

  • “Never be afraid of losing — because you have nothing to lose.”
  • “A man who’s already wet never fears the rain.”
  • These words, he says, taught him resilience in the face of rejection and unpredictability in the acting world.

Sikandar's Journey in Films and Beyond

Sikandar Kher has steadily built his career, one role at a time. He was most recently seen in the Hollywood action-thriller Monkey Man, and he’s also made a mark in Indian web series like Sushmita Sen’s Aarya and Varun Dhawan’s Citadel: Honey Bunny.

While his personal journey has had its share of emotional challenges, Sikandar is proving that even without constant support, strength can be self-made.
