RagaJazz set to make its exciting debut in Goa

Art Escape, The Live Music Project, and Silva Heritage are hosting RagaJazz, an extraordinary concert that combines Indian ragas with the Scandinavian jazz.

This international quintet will perform on November 22, 2024, at the stunning Silva Heritage mansion in Benaulim, South Goa.

A UNIQUE MUSICAL JOURNEY

RagaJazz is an innovative musical project by Danish Grammy-winning saxophonist and composer Lars Møller, who has taken pains to explore the blending of Indian classical music and jazz.

This unique music combines the emotional depth of Indian ragas with the free and expressive style of jazz. The result is a sound that is both dramatic and reflective.

The band's sound is unique. It combines talented musicians from Indian classical music and Scandinavian jazz. Their performances mix melodies, rhythms, and , creating a one-of-a-kind listening experience.

The RagaJazz ensemble has performed worldwide, including a notable show during the Royal Danish State Visit to India in 2023. The group has given more than 80 concerts in India and Europe. They have received praise for their creative style and excellent musicianship.

The RagaJazz ensemble features a talented group of world-class musicians:

Lars Møller (Denmark): A renowned saxophonist and composer deeply rooted in the jazz tradition, Lars Møller is known for his unique ability to merge with Indian classical music. A legendary Danish Grammy winner, he has performed alongside legends such as Ry Cooder and Zakir Hussain.

Kala Ramnath (India): One of the world’s foremost virtuosos, Kala Ramnath is known for her emotional, expressive playing. A recipient of the prestigious Sangeet Natak Academy Award, Kala has garnered acclaim for her mastery of the violin in both classical Indian and crossover genres.

Abhijit Banerjee (India): One of India’s top tabla players, Abhijit Banerjee is celebrated for his profound musicality, sensitivity, and creativity. His unique tabla playing brings a of rhythm and improvisation to the band’s playing of jazz and Indian classical music.

Thor Madsen (Denmark): A guitarist whose style spans multiple genres, Thor Madsen brings a wealth of experience from his extensive touring across Europe and the US. His virtuosity and versatility are a key element in the ensemble’s ability to the distinct sounds of jazz and Indian classical music.

Jonas Johansen (Denmark): A drummer with over 35 years of experience, Jonas Johansen is known for his global mindset and orchestral approach to drumming. With more than 180 albums to his name, Jonas brings an unmatched level of artistry and subtlety to the RagaJazz ensemble.

The concert will take place at Silva Heritage, a 350-year-old mansion in South Goa. This beautiful venue combines Portuguese Catholic and Hindu architectural styles.

Now an experiential resort, Silva Heritage offers a unique setting for this special musical event. The mansion's lush lawns and historic charm create the perfect atmosphere for an unforgettable evening of music.

The November 22 event has been curated by Vinesh Iyer and Darryl Noronha of the The Live Music Project (TLMP), the organisation which has been organising quality music events and festivals in Goa for the last 15 years.
