Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): A series of programmes were organised by various educational institutions to mark the World Earth Day here on Tuesday.
The day was celebrated in the School of Studies in Geology. Educationist Dr KN Singh as a keynote speaker expressed concern over the increasing population and decreasing trees and increasing pollution in the sea and shed light on how the use of plastic can be controlled.
Indore’s district food supply controller Mohan Maru, in his lecture, explained the importance of planting trees in the reserved places in the university campus as well as making efforts on a war footing towards the construction of ponds in the efforts to protect the earth.
Vice-chancellor Prof Arpan Bhardwaj appealed to the students to control the use of plastic and stop the wastage of water through their simple reach and also ensure that every person is responsible for the protection of nature.
Tree friends Jagannath Chaturvedi, Ajay Bhatkhande, Anil Sen, Rupesh Gupta and Gaurav Malpani were honoured by presenting Tulsi plants and certificates. Head Dr PN Tiwari delivered the welcome speech. Dr Rakesh Pandya proposed the vote of thanks.
At Government Vijayaraje Girls Higher Secondary School, a programme organised under the joint aegis of Science Club and Eco Club. The lamp was lit by the chief guest Amitabh Sudhanshu, environmentalist. In this program focused on the importance of the earth, flowers were offered to the globe, a replica of the Earth, by the guest and keynote speaker Rahul Shukla.
The guests were welcomed by the principal Sanat Vyas. In Government High School Dudhli, the Eco Club organised a QR Codes then flora activity. Principal Sanjay Lalwani underlined the importance of environment and trees and plants. Science teacher Rajesh Malviya gave information about the characteristics of trees and their medicinal properties. Shubham Bhardwaj gave technical support for making QR codes.
CM Rise School Maharajwada-3 Eco Club organised Vasundhara Day. Vice-principal Ravi Sahu said that role of Eco Club in School and Society and water conservation is the need of the hour. A short film on Earth Day was screened for the students by Sohanlal Pandey.
Lectures on Earth Day, energy saving, plantation and recycling were given by Rajesh Rathore and Dinesh Bhati. Addressing a programme at the Prime Minister College of Excellence Madhav College, the principal of Madhav Science College Dr Harish Vyas said, we should change our lifestyle.
There is no time for change. In the race of modernisation, we have become attached to plastic. Principal Dr Kalpana Singh said, we are witnessing the rising graph of temperature in wake of anthropogenic activities.
