Palghar, Maharashtra: A police constable traveling on a local train was severely assaulted by fellow passengers, resulting in a broken tooth. Vasai Railway Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the incident, who have been booked for obstructing government duty.
Uddhav Gend (25), a police constable residing in Bhayandar and attached to Navghar Police Station, was on official duty, traveling to Pune on Monday. Around 8:30 am, he boarded an up-local train bound for Churchgate from Platform No. 4, entering a general compartment.
An altercation erupted over boarding the train, leading to four passengers brutally assaulting him. During the assault, his shirt was torn, and he sustained a jaw injury, resulting in a broken tooth.
Despite identifying himself as a police officer, the four individuals continued to kick and punch him. Amidst the assault, Gend managed to photograph two of his attackers on his mobile phone.
Constable Gend recounted, "They kept assaulting me from Bhayandar to Mira Road station. My head felt numb, and I called both railway helplines for assistance, but received no help." He added, "Even though I was a police officer, they continued to beat me. They eventually disembarked at Andheri and fled."
On Tuesday morning, Gend, with the assistance of railway police, tracked down one of the assailants. The individual, identified as Keyur Gosalia (24), a resident of Sainagar, Vasai, was spotted at Vasai station and apprehended. He was brought to Vasai Railway Police Station, where he disclosed the names of his two accomplices, Vijay and Mohammed.
