Mumbai is on high alert due to torrential rains causing widespread waterlogging and disruptions. In response, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert on Wednesday.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that all schools and colleges in the city will remain closed today, September 26, prioritizing student safety. The civic body has also advised citizens to venture out only when necessary, due to the hazardous conditions.

Additionally, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) as well as the Palghar district administration has also declared a holiday for schools and colleges on September 26 in light of the red alert. While in Mumbai and Thane a red alert has been issued until Thursday morning at 8.30 am, a red alert has been issued by the IMD for Palghar district throughout Thursday.
This decision applies to both private and government institutions.
Parents and guardians are advised to stay updated on weather alerts and exercise caution during this period.
