The Mumbai Central Division has identified several new parking slots, many of which are set to become operational soon. This move aims to ease the growing demand for parking at railway stations, especially in the distant suburban areas where last-mile connectivity remains a challenge.
15 New Sites Across Two Years
As part of this initiative, WR has identified 15 new parking sites across the 2024–2025 and 2025–2026 financial years, covering over 12,000 square meters. A majority of these sites have already been commissioned, while the remaining ones are expected to become operational shortly, railway officials confirmed.
Existing Parking Capacity and Revenue
Currently, there are 22 operational parking facilities across the division, spread over 25,837 square meters. These generate an annual revenue of approximately Rs 7.52 crore for the railways, underlining the importance of parking as a significant source of non-fare income.
Push Towards Sustainable Mobility
"In a push towards sustainable mobility, WR has also established eight two-wheeler parking-cum-electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at key suburban nodes, including three at Dadar one each at Prabhadevi, Mumbai Central, Bandra, Vile Parle, and Andheri. These eco-friendly facilities, covering 2,876 square meters, contribute an additional Rs 72.88 lakh annually to the division’s coffers," said an official.
Bandra Terminus Leading in Revenue
Meanwhile, a dedicated parking and vehicle stacking facility at Bandra Terminus has emerged as one of the most lucrative ventures, generating Rs 1.52 crore in yearly revenue.

According to an official, during the 2024–2025 fiscal year, nine new parking sites were added between Churchgate and Virar, further strengthening WR’s reach into suburban Mumbai. Building on this momentum, six more sites have been identified in the current financial year (2025–2026). Of these, two are already operational, and the remaining four are slated to open in the coming months.
Boost to Non-Fare Revenue
Railway officials say the expanded infrastructure is not only expected to improve commuter convenience but also significantly boost WR’s non-fare revenue stream.
Focus on Passenger Amenities
“This initiative is part of a comprehensive plan to enhance passenger amenities while tapping into sustainable and commercially viable solutions,” stated a senior WR official.
