‘A Pakistani worker employed by BMC Contractor led to the stoppage of road work at Marol,” activist Godfrey Pimenta has said in his complaint to the Chief Minister and BMC Commissioner. The improvement work on Church Road, Marol in Andheri East is being executed under the supervision of K East Ward and contracted to AIC Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd.
Pimenta, who is trustee of Watchdog Foundation, said that on March 5, when local residents questioned one of the workers over the destruction of a water pipeline, the worker responded in a rude and hostile manner and claimed that he was ‘Pakistani’. This alarmed the locals and led to the involvement of the police. “The worker was taken by MIDC police for further inquiry. Since this incident, all road work has come to a standstill, with no sign of accountability or communication from the contractor or BMC K East Ward,” the activist said.
Pimenta said that during the course of digging and roadwork, the workers of the contractor have damaged multiple water pipelines and underground electric cables, leading to water cuts, contamination risks, and potential electric hazards. “This is not just gross negligence, it is criminal indifference to public infrastructure,” he said.
The activist has demanded immediate suspension and blacklisting of AIC Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. for gross negligence and misconduct and urgent restoration of damaged water pipelines and electric cables.
