On the occasion of the Ashadhi Ekadashi pilgrimage, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) successfully transported 9,71,683 devotees and passengers to Pandharpur for Vitthal darshan through the deployment of 5,200 additional buses, generating a remarkable revenue of Rs 35.87 crore for the corporation.
According to Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, devotees from across Maharashtra travel to Pandharpur to seek blessings from Lord Vitthal, and to ensure smooth and safe travel, MSRTC operated these extra buses between July 3 and July 10. During this period, a total of 21,499 trips were made, facilitating the safe journey of nearly 9.72 lakh devotees to the holy town.
This large-scale transport operation not only guaranteed a smooth travel experience for the pilgrims but also led to a significant increase in MSRTC’s earnings, with this year’s revenue surpassing last year’s figure of Rs 28.91 crore by Rs 6.96 crore. Minister Sarnaik commended the dedication and efficiency of thousands of MSRTC drivers, conductors, mechanical staff, supervisors, and officers, whose collective efforts were crucial in managing the massive operation successfully.
