Beating the summer heat isn’t just about air-conditioning anymore. Across NCR, people are willingly stepping into tubs filled with ice. From fitness enthusiasts and biohackers to stressed-out professionals and thrill-seekers, ice baths have become the latest weekend ritual, offering not just physical recovery but a powerful mental reset.
The prep for ice plunge
“Many come for ice bath sessions on the weekends – individually or in a group – to experience something new. Some come to challenge themselves and see how resilient they are, while others are looking for a dopamine-high experience,” shares Rhythm, an ice-bath facilitator who conducts workshops across NCR.
Her two-hour workshop begins with a somatic practice, followed by breathwork to prepare the mind and body to get into the tub of ice. The prep includes a 'warm up' session and two-minute immersion in an acclimatisation tub (10-11°C). Only after these preps the participant goes into the main tub (which is at 3-4°C) for at least two minutes. “People who take ice bath workshops regularly, usually stay in the main tub for up to 7-15 minutes,” adds Rhythm.
‘Ice offers healing, not just physically, but emotionally’
Stepping into ice can be a cathartic experience for some. Ice bath facilitator Sonakshi Arora says, “In the rush of NCR life, people are hungry for authentic spaces. The ice offers healing, not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. It shows you your resistance, fear and strength. People realise, ‘I can do more than I think I can.’ She adds, “We combine the ice bath with breathwork, sharing circles, creating a safe, heart-led space where people can cry, release old pains, connect with their inner child. They often say, ‘I didn’t know I needed this'.
Khushbu Gouti, 32, who recently attended an ice bath session, shares, “I took an intense physical and emotional experience – an ice bath in 200 kg of ice. It wasn’t just about testing my body’s limits, it was about pushing past mental boundaries, fears and emotional walls. After stepping out, I felt lighter and clearer.” An ice bath session can range between Rs 1,500 - Rs 2,500
‘People are installing ice bathtubs at homes, society clubs’
Cold therapy is no longer just for athletes — it has become a lifestyle. “What started as a niche recovery tool is now becoming a regular weekend ritual for many. We’re seeing a rising demand for installing ice baths at homes, wellness centres. Even luxury hotels and residential communities are offering it as part of their lifestyle amenities,” says Pallav Chordia, founder of ice bath tub manufacturing company in Delhi.
