Sitaare Zameen Par rental prices get discount: How to watch Aamir Khan's movie on YouTube

Aamir Khan is marking the Independence Day weekend with a special gesture for his fans. The actor has announced a steep price cut on the YouTube rental of his latest film, Sitaare Zameen Par, making it more affordable for audiences to enjoy at home. The move comes as part of his unconventional distribution strategy, aimed at reaching a wider audience beyond the limitations of theatre screens.

Limited-Time Rs 50 Offer for Viewers
For three days—August 15, 16, and 17—the film’s rental price in India will drop from Rs 100 to Rs 50. The announcement was made through a video shared by Aamir Khan Productions, where the actor extended Independence Day greetings and urged families to watch the film together during the holiday.

In addition to India, the film is available in 38 international markets, including the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Singapore, with localised pricing for each territory.

Skipping OTT for Pay-Per-View
Rather than releasing on traditional streaming platforms, Sitaare Zameen Par followed a pay-per-view model on YouTube after its June theatrical run. Speaking to ETimes, Aamir explained that even the biggest theatrical hits only reach a small fraction of the population, largely due to a shortage of cinema screens.

He added that the digital model provides a way to connect with far more viewers, especially with rising internet access across India.

How to Watch on YouTube

The film can be rented in India via YouTube on smartphones, tablets, laptops, or Smart TVs. Viewers can find it by searching Sitaare Zameen Par, visiting the Aamir Khan Productions channel, or browsing YouTube’s Movies section.

To rent, users select the rent option, choose a payment method such as BHIM UPI, Google Play balance, or Visa/MasterCard, and confirm the transaction. Once rented, the film remains in the account’s purchases section for 30 days. Viewers have 48 hours to watch it as many times as they like after starting playback. On Smart TVs, the process is similar, with purchases linked to the account’s saved payment methods.

Heartwarming Sports Drama
Directed by RS Prasanna and written by Divy Nidhi Sharma, the film tells the story of Gulshan Arora (Aamir Khan), a fiery basketball coach who is assigned to train a team of adults with intellectual disabilities as part of community service following a DUI offence. Initially resistant, he develops empathy and forms deep bonds with his players.

Co-starring Genelia Deshmukh and ten debutant actors, the film is the official Hindi adaptation of the Spanish hit Campeones and is described as a spiritual successor to Aamir’s 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par.

Box Office Success and What’s Next
Released on June 20, the film has been both a commercial and critical success, grossing over Rs 263 crore globally, with some reports placing its worldwide earnings even higher. Aamir recently joined Indian Army personnel for a special screening, where he was seen enjoying the film alongside soldiers.

The actor is also producing Lahore 1947, starring Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, and Ek Din, featuring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi. In addition, he makes a cameo in Rajinikanth’s Coolie, a role he accepted immediately upon learning it was for the superstar’s film.
