As the India-China armies continue disengagement of troops at the Line of Actual Control ( LAC), the US State Department welcomed the 'reduction in tensions' at the border, ANI reported early Wednesday.
Matthew Miller, spokesperson of the US State Department, said that Washington is 'closely monitoring the situation and has held discussions with the Indian side on the matter.
However, he clarified that the US has not played any role in the India-China resolution.
"We are closely following the developments and we understand that both countries have taken initial steps to withdraw troops from the friction points along the LAC. We welcome any reduction in tensions along the border," Miller said in the daily press briefing on Tuesday (local time).
"We have talked to our Indian partners and taken a brief on it, but we did not play any role in this resolution," he added.
As per the ANI report, the disengagement process in the Depsang and Demchok areas of the Eastern Ladakh sector is almost over.
The Armies of the two counties are verifying the vacation of positions and removal of infrastructure by each other at the said locations.
India has been working towards resolving this long-standing dispute to restore the pre-April 2020 situation, prior to the onset of Chinese aggression in the area.
China's Foreign Ministry reported progress in implementing the recent agreement on border issues with India. "In accordance with the recent resolutions on border issues, the Chinese and Indian frontier troops are engaged in relevant work, progressing smoothly at present," said spokesperson Lin Jian during a press briefing.
India and China had reached an agreement on patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh on October 21, ending a four-year military standoff. This announcement came ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping's meeting at the BRICS Summit in Russia earlier this month.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India confirmed the new patrolling arrangements along the LAC, addressing issues that began in 2020 following Chinese military actions in eastern Ladakh.
