Guwahati: In restive Manipur a temple was set on fire in Senapati district.

Police sources said that on CCTV footage showed masked Man Sets Fire To Lord Shiva Temple In Manipur. The temple was partially damaged after some people sneaked into the compound at night and set it on fire in Manipur’s Senapati district.

Sources said that a masked man throwing a burning log towards a door inside the temple’s courtyard in the early hours of Wednesday. The fire was doused in sometime.

The Naga Peoples’ Organisation (NPO) and the Karong-Senapati Town Committee (KSTC) in a joint statement strongly condemned the attempt to burn the Shri Shri Pashupati Nath Mandir.

Manipur witnessed several violent incidents since September 1, leaving at least 12 people, including two women, elderly persons and a retired soldier, dead and over 20 others injured.

Of the 12 deaths, six were killed in Jiribam, inhabited by people from different communities.

Manipur witnessed hi tech attacks by drone bombs and rocket propelled bombs. Following the attack by drone bombs and rocket propelled bombs, the security forces have deployed an anti-drone system to repel the rogue drones.

Manipur has witnessed repeated incidents of arms loot since May 3 last year. At least 226people have been killed, 1,500 injured and 60,000 displaced since violence broke out between the Meitei and Kuki-Zomi communities on May 3 last year.

The riots began after a ‘ Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
