Cabinet approves Bhubaneswar Bypass in Odisha at an investment of Rs 8,300 core

The union cabinet on Tuesday gave its go ahead to the six-lane access-controlled Bhubaneswar Bypass in Odisha under the hybrid annuity mode (HAM) at a total capital cost of Rs 8307.74 crore.

The capital cost of the 110.87 km long capital region ring road includes the land acquisition cost of Rs 1029.43 crore and the civil cost of Rs 4686.74 crore.

“The project will provide significant benefit to Odisha and other eastern states by diverting heavy commercial traffic away from Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Khordha cities,” a government statement said.

“This will enhance the efficiency of freight movement, reducing logistics cost and driving socio-economic growth in the region,” it added.

Currently, connectivity between Rameshwar to Tangi on the existing National Highway experiences significant congestion due to high traffic volumes, passing through highly urbanized cities Khordha, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

The project will also generate approximately 74.43 lakh person-days of direct and 93.04 lakh person-days of indirect employment, and will open new avenues of growth, development and prosperity in surrounding regions.

Upon completion, the bypass will play a pivotal role in regional economic growth, strengthening connectivity between major religious and economic centers and opening new avenues for trade and industrial development, it added.

PM to inaugurate road project in Bihar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the Aunta-Simaria project in Bihar on 22 August, 2025. The project, which also includes a 1.865 km long bridge over river Ganga, will provide direct connectivity between Mokama in Patna and Begusarai.

The new bridge, which is under construction from 2018, will reduce the extra travel distance by up to 100 km for the heavy vehicles, travelling between regions of North Bihar and South Bihar.

“The project will thus make travel easier as well as faster for heavy vehicles thereby saving on fuel and vehicle operation cost.
