An explosion occurred at a firecracker factory in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, killing at least two people. Many more are feared trapped in the debris.
The explosion caused the walls of the factory to collapse. Rescue operation is underway with several fire engines and police officers reaching the spot. "Rescue teams comprising fire brigade, ambulances and local police are undertaking rescue work at the spot," the officer added.
"The blast occurred in a house where the cracker factory was operating from. Two persons have been killed in the incident and some are injured," Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Anindya Vikaram Singh said.
Meanwhile, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased in the accident. He has also directed officials to ensure proper treatment of the injured, and instructed the district administration to expedite relief work on the spot.
