Google plans to bring its Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) assistant to a wider range of devices, including cars, smartwatches and headphones, by the end of 2025. The announcement, made during parent Alphabet’s first-quarter earnings call, signals Google's push to embed AI deeper across its ecosystem.
Gemini, which has already replaced Google Assistant on Android smartphones, will soon extend to platforms such as Android Auto, Wear OS smartwatches and connected audio devices.
Confirming the rollout, Google CEO, Sundar Pichai said, “We are upgrading Google Assistant on mobile devices to Gemini, and later this year we will upgrade tablets, cars, and devices that connect to your phone, such as headphones and watches.”
The integration is expected to deliver smarter voice commands, faster responses and enhanced functionality across devices. On Wear OS, Gemini will bolster fitness tracking, notifications and voice interactions, while Android Auto users will get a more intuitive driving experience.
Although Google has not specified an exact timeline, the rollout is likely to begin later this year, with more details expected at the Google I/O developer conference in May.
The expansion builds on a series of updates announced recently to Gemini’s capabilities. The Flash Thinking experimental model now supports file uploads and features a longer context window of up to one million tokens, enabling it to manage complex queries more efficiently. The Deep Research tool, now available in over 45 languages, generates detailed web analysis reports and is accessible to free-tier users a few times a month.
Gemini is also offering more personalised responses based on a user’s Google Search history, along with deeper integration with Google Calendar, Tasks and Notes. Additionally, Google’s custom assistant builder, Gems, is now free for all users.
